Smiles on Ice
The Northern Maine Figure Skating Club will be holding the Smiles on Ice 2012 competition on Sunday, Jan. 15 at the Forum in Presque Isle.
The event gets under way after a brief warm up at 3:15 p.m.
This year 13 girls will be competing. All, but one, are basic skills level skaters, age 4-13.
There are two parts to the competition: elements, when skaters are asked to show moves according to their level; and programs, when they skate to music.
All skaters will get a medal.
There is no admission fee for the event.
Athletes of the Week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are please to congratulate Erica Hemphill, Issac Estey, and Adam Flynn for being selected as athletes of the week for Dec. 19 – Jan. 2.
Hemphill qualified for the state swim meet in the following events: 50- and 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly.
Estey qualified for the state swim meet in the following events: 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard individual medley.
Flynn scored 5 goals and had 5 assists to lead the hockey team past Orono and Winslow.
Student-athletes selected as athletes of the week receive a large pizza courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
