She was coloring with her younger sister when she noticed a form at the beginning of the coloring book asking children to send in colored pictures and their ideas for making the coloring book better.
“I just thought it would be a fun activity,” said Teagan Ewings, daughter of Angela and Joe Ewings of Littleton.
One day when she came home from school, she saw a package waiting.
“My mom started opening it and then I showed my mom my name was on it,” said Ewings. “Mom thought I ordered something online, but I really didn’t. I didn’t know what it was.”
With her hands shaking with excitement, Ewings opened the package.
“I was trying to read the letter, but I was shaking the paper,” she said. “I began reading the letter and after I read two paragraphs, I looked on the back and saw my picture and my name.”
Out of all the thousands of letters and pictures from children across the country, Ewings has been honored with her coloring page featured on the back cover of one of Dalmatian Press’ newest coloring books.
Dalmatian Press reading and coloring books are sold throughout the United States.
“Your letter and colored picture really stood out from the pack,” the press letter stated. “We loved the picture you sent us and we appreciate your ideas you shared with us in your letter.”
Staff of Dalmatian Press picked Ewings’ picture to be published on the back of their coloring book and added her as a new member of their Puppy Pack.
The press letter added, “We know you’ll be excited to see your work on our new book. We appreciate your hard work and creativity. We hope your picture will inspire other kids to join the Puppy Pack.”
Ewings colored picture was of a bunny, and she colored it, “because I like bunnies,” she said.
The Ewings have a bunny named Thumper at home.
Ewings was given six coloring books by Dalmatian Press. She gave away five of them as Christmas gifts and kept one for herself.
“I thought maybe if I save the picture, my kid could color it,” she added.
Ewings is a fourth-grader at Greater Houlton Christian Academy. She likes to paint, especially flowers, and would someday like to try her hand at sketching.
“She has won a couple of coloring contests at Shop ‘n Save,” said her mother Angie. “She really enjoys coloring.”
Her little sister Teanne added, “I like Play-Dough. I make ice cream with it.”
After a bit of laughter, Ewings said she told her teacher and others about her accomplishment.
“I think it is really special,” she said.
