    PRESQUE ISLE – Bernice Merriman, 102 died Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Aroostook Health Center. She was born in Ashland on March 13, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Gardner) Collier.

    She attended schools in Ashland. She married Philip Merriman and they lived in Portland and Freeport, where she worked as a switchboard operator for the Atlantic Pacific Tea Co. for many years. After the death of her husband in the early sixties, she later moved to St. Petersburg, FL, and lived there for 30 years.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; and eight siblings: Beryl Comeau, Chrystal Weeks, Katherine Allen, Irene Sawyer, Winifred Tuzzer, Mary Malis, Arthur Collier, and Victoria Bridges.

    She is survived by many nieces and nephews including Jim Collier of Ashland and Betty Jo Smith of Mars Hill.
