PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A reception for Wintergreen Arts Center’s new exhibit, Works from Studio 923, UMPI’s Art Club, will be held on Friday, March 2, 6-8 p.m. The public is invited to come and experience a wide selection of works by some very talented University of Maine at Presque Isle students, as well as, celebrate their opening party and other First Friday Art Walk events being held that evening.
The public is encouraged to stop by, meet the artists and discuss their work. Pieces will be on display in the Barresi Financial Gallery at the Wintergreen Arts Center at 149 State St. March 2-30.
UMPI’s Art Club is a relatively new endeavor and according to Club President Angela Williams, students will be hosting an open mic at Wieden Auditorium immediately following the Art Walk 8:30-11 p.m. to raise awareness about the organization. All are welcome to attend and participate.
Wintergreen Arts Center is especially pleased to host this exhibit as this is the first of an anticipated series of collaborations between the University and Wintergreen. Musical fare for the evening will be provided by a variety of local musicians — mostly students — from UMPI, the University of Maine at Orono and Presque Isle High School.
The Center is hosting this opening reception as part of the First Friday Art Walk — a wonderful cultural opportunity in downtown Presque Isle. Downtown businesses and organizations invite visitors to take a self-guided stroll through the downtown and University galleries to hear live music, meet local authors and artists, and experience the heart of the community. Participating organizations include the Turner Memorial Library Gallery, Wintergreen Arts Center, Merchants on the Corner, Sorpreso, Morning Star Art and Framing, Oasis Salon, the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Reed Gallery, and — new this month — the Salvation Army Store at 377 Main St.
First Friday Art Walk is an event where people can meet, unwind and enjoy the arts on the first Friday of each month between 5-9 p.m. For more information, including which venues may or may not be participating each month, and the specific times of each venue’s hosting, check out the First Friday Facebook page.
