Three passengers — including a Presque Isle native — died as the result of a single-vehicle crash on County Road 464 in the Silver Springs Shore area of Marion County, Fla., when the driver of a 2008 Honda Civic they were riding in lost control of the vehicle shortly after 2 a.m. on Feb. 11.

According to reports, the driver, identified as Andrew W. Persaud, 22, of Ocala, lost control, striking a tree, causing the car to spin around. The vehicle then hit a second tree, cutting it in half. Persaud and his front-seat passenger, Nicholaas H. Bryon, 22, of Belleview, landed about 75 feet away in a nearby parking lot. Both were hospitalized in critical condition.

Taylor Dean Scanlin, 24, of Fruitland Park, Fla., was in the back seat with Michael S. Ramdeholl, 23, of Ocala, and Eric C. Baker, 21, of Summerfield. All three died at the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol determined speed was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
