Friday marks “World Day of Prayer 2012” and churchgoers from all denominations are encouraged to join in the celebration. World Day of Prayer is an Ecumenical celebration of informed prayer, written by women of Malaysia for families in need worldwide.
The theme for this year is “Let Justice Prevail” and a special service will be held at the St. Mary of the Visitation Parish in Houlton, starting at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Parish Center for food and fellowship, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. in the church.
The first organized day of prayer was held in Canada on Jan. 9, 1920. In the United States, the first organized day was held Feb. 20, 1920.
