CARIBOU, Maine — Susan White, principal at the Caribou Middle School recently announced the names of those students selected as February Students of the Month, by their respective teachers.
Danielle Hanson, was chosen Student of the Month for February, by her sixth-grade team teachers Mrs. Ruth Dionne and Mr. John Pelletier, who stated, “Danielle is a very conscientious student, always giving her best effort regardless of the subject area. Always willing to help her classmates and her teachers when called upon, she is very respectful toward both her peers and her teachers.”
“Danielle is a very involved student, not only here at Caribou Middle School, but outside the school as well, participating in the school band and most recently as a member of the sixth and seventh-grade girls’ basketball team,” her teachers said.
A participant in both Dutch and recreation soccer as well as recreation basketball, Danielle is also a member of the Maine Dance Academy, AYBL basketball and gymnastics. “Her bubbly personality and positive attitude make her a wonderful role model to other CMS students,” the teachers added.
Nic Sleeper, a member of the CMS sixth grade was named Student of the Month for February by his teachers Mrs. Cathy Bouchard and Ms. Sarah LaJoie.
The team teachers stated, “Nic is a well-rounded student and is well-liked and respected by his peers. He is a member of the Gifted and Talented program at CMS, a member of the band and participates in cross-country running and skiing during the fall and winter. “Nic is a great leader in all of his classes and in the school, a member of the developmental assets leadership team and a homeroom representative for student organization, he is highly deserving of this recognition,” they said.
Noah Cousins was named Student of the Month for February by his grade seven teachers Mr. Steve Perreault, Mr. P.J. Gorneault, Mme. Niki Carpenter, Mrs. Holly Rhinebolt, Mrs. Kim Barnes, Mr. Lyle Gengler and Mr. Dale Ouellette.
“Noah is an exceptionally kind and respectful student and his study habits and school citizenship are fantastic,” said the team teachers. Involved in school leadership groups always setting a great example for other students to follow, he maintains academic honors throughout the school year and is always striving to be the best student he can be.
“Noah is well liked by the entire seventh-grade student body because of the cheerfulness and friendliness that he exhibits towards each and everyone of his classmates,” the teachers said. “Caribou Middle School is a better and more positive place because of the contributions of Noah Cousins,” they added.
Kennedy Griffin was selected as Student of the Month for February by her seventh-grade teachers Mrs. Mary Curtis, Mr. Perreault, Mr. Gorneault, Mrs. Rhinebolt, Mme. Carpenter and Mr. Ryan Deprey.
“Kennedy is a delightful young lady. She is always smiling and pleasant to others and we enjoy her outstanding participation in class. Kennedy works hard on her schoolwork, maintaining honor roll grades. We are very proud of the growth she has made this year,” stated her teachers.
Kelsey Kiehn, a member of the eighth grade at Caribou Middle School was chosen as Student of the Month of February by her teachers Mrs. Jessica Dow, Mr. Vaughn McLaughlin, Mrs. Vicki King, Mr. Travis Barnes, Mme. Carpenter, Mr. Deprey, Mr. Troy Barnes, Mr. Ralph Fantasia, Mrs. Gengler, Mr. Ouellette and Mrs. Shannon Sleeper. “Kelsey was chosen because of her willingness to help others and her ability to set an example for all who attend CMS,” they said.
“A member of the band, chorus and show choirs at Caribou Middle School, she is also a member of the CMS developmental assets team and is an active member in the Gifted and Talented program,” said the team teachers. “Outside of school Kelsey participates in Agape Girls youth group and takes drum lessons. She is always willing to help a fellow classmate or teacher, often without being asked and is a wonderful role model to all students. Kelsey sets a great example regarding schoolwork and the treatment of fellow classmates, schoolmates, teachers and other adults,” they added.
Chathu Karunasiri, an eighth-grade student was named Student of the Month for February by his teachers Mrs. Sleeper, Mr. Barnes, Mme. Carpenter, Mr. Gorneault, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Deprey and Mr. Fantasia. “Chathu excels academically as a highest honor roll student as well as a leader in the classroom,” stated the CMS teachers.
Not only an exceptional student, Karunasiri is an active participant at the Caribou Middle School where he has been a four-year member of the cross-country running team, a three-year member of the Nordic ski team and is looking forward to this fourth year as a member of the track and field team,” they added.
“Chathu is a member of the Developmental Assets Team and the Energy Team as well as the Gifted and Talented program. He is a pleasure to have in class and is always willing to help others. His academic achievements and extra-curricular involvement combine to make him an outstanding school citizen,” said the CMS grade-eight teachers.
