Gallagher named CMO at Cary

Kris Doody, R.N.; Cary Medical Center CEO, has announced the appointment of Dr. Regen Gallagher as the hospital’s new chief medical officer.

Dr. Gallagher will be responsible for a number of medical staff leadership duties including peer review, state licensure and The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization surveys. She will be a member of the hospital’s administrative team and will be working closely with the hospital’s quality management and patient safety programs. Dr. Gallahger will also work with the Cary medical staff to assist with identifying physician recruitment needs and building a strong physician retention program.  

Prior to her new position, Dr. Gallagher served as the physician advisor for Executive Health Resources (EHR) of Pennsylvania, ensuring Medicare compliance for hospitals contracted for EHR services throughout the country. Dr. Gallagher was also a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist from 2006-10 with Pines Health Services and Cary Medical Center.

Dr. Gallagher received her doctor of osteopathic medicine from the University of  New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, and completed her OB/GYN Residency Program at Midwestern University/CCOM in Illinois, and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

She also received her master’s in business administration with a medical management concentration from the University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Management.

Dr. Gallagher has served in several hospital leadership capacities, including chief of staff and vice chief of staff of the hospital’s medical executive/credentials committee; physician advisor for case management; and director for the maternal-child unit. She is currently a member of the Maine Osteopathic Association Board of Directors; the Cary Medical Center Quality Management and Professional Advisory committees and the Professional Advisory Committee of Valley Home Health Services. She is a past member of the hospital’s Medical Review and Compliance committees and the Pines Health Services Compliance Committee.

Dr. Gallagher began her duties as chief medical officer on March 12. She resides in Caribou with husband, Shawn Laferriere, DO, chief of radiology and current chief of staff at Cary Medical Center.
