The Walk Away Winter Program at the Houlton Recreation Department came to a close on March 27 with the awards presentations.

Healthly Maine Partnership and the rec department staff presented the top five walkers with gift cards.

The top overall walker was Chris Smith with 50 hours, 35 minutes; second, Judy Pottle with 43 hours, 5 minutes; third, Brenda White with 35 hours, 15 minutes; fourth, Bonnie Campbell with 34 hours, 15 minutes and fifth place went to Phil Cloney with 32 hours, 4 minutes.     All participants received certificates of participation and a carnation.

There were a total of 55 people who signed up for this winter walking program.

“We were very pleased with the number of participants this winter and they did an amazing job of being dedicated to walking,” said Marie Carmichael, program director at Houlton Parks and Recreation Department.

“With our long winters, this program gives the participants a little incentive to keep walking and the social element is always uplifting,” she said.

Walkers are welcome to use the gym Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until April 28.
