Riding on closed trails is illegal

Due to a concern of property damage complaints from landowners, ATV Clubs and citizens’ complaints, the Caribou Police Department and the Aroostook County ATV Task Force will be stepping up enforcement of ATV violations.

“Officers will be issuing summonses for any and all violations,” said Chief Michael W. Gahagan.

“ATV trails are still closed and it is against the law to operate any vehicle on ATV trails. Operating a passenger vehicle on an ATV trail is considered a Class E crime punishable by up to six months in jail and a $500 fine, and you may also be held liable for damages,” he added.

Persons with questions regarding the ATV trails and maintenance should call the Caribou Wellness Center at 493-4224. Call the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301 to report a crime.
