High school baseball season picks up this week

If the weather cooperates this should be a busy week for area high school baseball teams. Last week Presque Isle picked up another win, this time against the Houlton Shiretowners and Central Aroostook went 2-0 with wins over Madawaska and Wisdom.

Recapping games played through Monday:

Central Aroostook 9, Wisdom 4 — The Panthers grabbed their third win of the season by downing the visiting Wisdom Pioneers 9-4 on Monday.

Brendan York drove in two runs with a double and a triple and Ross Grass contributed a double, singled and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Dan Brewer struck out six in four innings.

SAHS 13, LCS/MSSM 2 — At Limestone Monday, Dylan Porter’s three-run double highlighted a 10-run fifth inning that carried the Warriors to victory.

Tristan Kirk hit a run-scoring double for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics (1-1).

John Bapst 3, Caribou 2 — The Caribou Vikings hosted a doubleheader against John Bapst and wound up dropping two close games.

In game one, Caribou could only muster two runs and fell, 3-2.

Dean Walker and Chad Caverhill each had a double and a single to pace Caribou. Matt Frost singled twice behind losing pitcher Matt Curry.

John Bapst 9, Caribou 6 — In game two, Walker also was the hitting star with four hits, but it wasn’t enough as the Crusaders gain a three run win.

Matt Milliard and Mike Selander had two singles each to back losing pitcher Cody Herbert.

Caribou falls to 3-2 on the season.

LCS/MSSM 11, Ashland 3 — Chris Bernier was impressive on the mound striking out 20 Ashland hitters as the Eagles won 11-3 at home on Thursday.

Austin Dow-Smith had a triple, double and four RBIs for Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics, while Brandon Thompson had a single and double and an RBI and Zack Cote added two singles and an RBI.

Ashland’s Royce McDonald had a double and two RBIs while J.J. Dozier had a single.

Wisdom 5, Washburn 3 — At Washburn Thursday, Nathan Oakes had a double and a single to lead Wisdom to the 5-3 win over the Beavers.

Anthony Viola had a single and a double for Washburn (0-1) and Kyle McLaughlin had two singles and an RBI.

Central Aroostook 12, Madawaska 2 — Central Aroostook improved their record to 2-0 with a home win over Madawaska on Thursday.

Darrin Murray had two-run homer and added a two-run single to power the Panthers’ victory. Mike McClung singled and doubled with three RBIs for Central Aroostook.

Grass pitched four strong innings, holding Madawaska to one hit and an unearned run to pick up the win.

Caribou 9, Fort Kent 0 — At Caribou Thursday, Walker and Milliard each had a double and a single and Milliard pitched four strong innings as Caribou improved to 3-0.

Dylan Berkoski and Caleb Chapman finished up on the mound for Caribou.

Presque Isle 5, Houlton 1 — The Presque Isle Wildcats opened up their home schedule with a win over Houlton on Wednesday.

Ryley Norton (3 innings), Saul Nunez (3 innings) and Wilder York (1 inning) combined on a three-hitter with four strikeouts to pace the Wildcats.

Evan Waddell provided an RBI single, Tyler Seeley hit a sacrifice fly and Norton singled.

Isaiah Straubel led Houlton with a double.
