As the end of school nears, we would like parents, guardians and friends to be informed of the events taking place at Houlton High School in the next few weeks. Beginning April 23, every Monday in quarter four the Positive Behavior Support Team will be doing a drawing for each grade. Kids who were here on time and attended every block or period every day the prior week will be entered into the drawing (medically excused absences will not be counted.) Winners the week of April 23 – 27 were Dillan Buzzell grade 7, Desiree Shannon grade 8, freshman Brady Wolslaben, sophomore Sam Richardson, junior Sarah Adams and senior Ian Bauersfeld. Winners the week of April 30 to May 4 are Zachary Reece grade 7, Amira Abouleish grade 8, freshman Haven Rhoda, sophomore Jessica Thorne, junior Melissa Peabody and senior Kody Gates. On June 11 we will have a “big drawing” for the students who have had perfect attendance the entire fourth quarter. Be the Boss! Be in School!
SENIOR CLASS NEWS
The senior trip will be held on May 20 to 21. Seniors who have signed up to go will be going to New Hampshire. Finals for seniors will start on Wednesday, May 30 and continue until June 4. Students only have to attend school when testing. The senior banquet will be held on Monday, June 4, at 5:30 p.m., followed by Senior Last Chapel at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Graduation will be held on Thursday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Millar Civic Center. Before seniors can march, all lost books, cafeteria bills, laptop repairs and projects must be paid for.
STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
The Student Council will be holding their annual cleanup day around town on Tuesday, May 22.
JUNIOR HIGH NEWS
The entire junior high will be enjoying a day of hiking and kayaking during the month of May thanks to the Maine Outdoor Education Program. Seventh graders will be visiting the Kathadin Region on May 24 and the eighth graders will be making the trip on May 21. The seventh graders earned over $4,500.00 during a junior high Read-A-Thon held in March. The money will be used to fund a field trip in which the students will travel on Cyr buses to Rockland, Maine, on June 8th. The students will enjoy a schooner trip, the Farnsworth Museum, a local activity center, and sightseeing. Finals start for grades 7 & 8 on Tuesday, June 12. Students only have to be here when they are testing. The Junior High Awards Assembly will be held on Thursday, June 14, at 8:30. The last day of school is June 15 only for those student who need to make up final exams. All lost book, cafeteria bills, laptop repairs and projects must be paid for before the end of school or final grades will not be available on Power School.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT NEWS
The All-State Music Festival will be held in Orono on May 17 and 18. Students will be leaving at 7 a.m. on Thursday, May 17. A concert on May 24 is Small Ensemble Night and grades 7-12 vocal groups at 7 p.m. On Memorial Day, the High School Band will playing at the amphitheater from 10-11 a.m.
GIFTED AND TALENTED NEWS
The Gifted and Talented Program will hold their end of the year celebration on Thursday, May 31, from 6-7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Parents and students are invited.
YEARBOOK NEWS
The yearbook class is pleased to announce that delivery of the 2012 North Star is on schedule. Please be sure balances are paid so that seniors may pick up their books at Project Graduation. Books for underclassmen will be available in the high school office
on Friday, June 8.
ART/QUILTING CLASS NEWS
The year end art/quilt show is May 31 in the small gym from noon to 7 p.m.
GRADES 9-11 FINALS INFORMATION
Finals start for grades 9-11 on Monday, June 11. Students only have to be here when testing. Senior High Awards will be given out on Friday, June 8, at 9:30 a.m. The last day of school is June 15. Only those students who must make up a missed final exam need to attend that day. Just a reminder that all lost books, cafeteria bills, laptop repairs and projects not paid for must be settled before the end of school or grades will not be available on Power School.
