PORTAGE LAKE — An out-of-control party early Sunday morning resulted in at least one arrest in connection with underage drinking.

“On May 13 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Trooper Dennis Quint, assisted by Trooper Todd Stetson and myself, responded to Portage Lake for a report of a large party at a camp. It was reported that there was a large fight at the camp involving several of the partygoers,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, Maine State Police.

Harris said upon arrival and during the subsequent investigation, it was determined that there was a small party at the camp that was attended by several friends but during the night, the party grew larger than expected.

“A fight broke out after a disagreement between some of the participants, resulting in the assault of a male at the party,” said Harris.

Police also discovered during their investigation that there were several minors in attendance at the party who had been drinking.

“The host of the party, Marcus Belanger, 20, of Ashland, was summonsed for providing a place for minors to consume alcohol. No charges were filed in the assault as the involved participants had worked out their differences and did not wish to cooperate in the investigation,” said Harris.

MSP troopers were assisted by deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Ashland Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol.
