PRESQUE ISLE AND SKOWHEGAN  American Flag ColorPatrick H. Gagnon, 80, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Friday, June 1, 2012. He was born at Presque Isle, on August 30, 1931, to Henry S. and Christine (Beaulieu) Gagnon. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1949, earning a school letter in basketball, baseball and track. He served in the US Marine Corp. during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant. He was a past president of the Presque Isle Chamber of Commerce, the Independent Insurance Agents of Aroostook County, the USI of Maine, Zippel School PTA and the Quoggy Joe Ski Club. He was a board member of the Northern Maine Development Commission, the Presque Isle Planning Board, the Presque Isle Industrial Council, the Presque Isle Forum Committee, the Aroostook Life Underwriters, the Aroostook RC and D, the Presque Isle Boys Camp, and the Presque Isle Search and Rescue. He was an Honorary Member and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Presque Isle Rotary Club. He was a licensed insurance agent for over 50 years and a notary public for over 40 years. To say that Pat “liked” to hunt and fish is an understatement. He had a passion for the outdoors that he shared with many close friends at Cross Lake, the Matapedia River and everywhere in between. He loved to fish and hunt. He loved his family, his wife, his children and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Reta L. (Porter) Gagnon of 54 years; daughter, Michelle Cronin and husband, Brian of Presque Isle; daughter, Patricia and partner Virginia Cody of Raymond; daughter, Stephanie Reeves and husband, John of Skowhegan; grandchildren Brittany (Cronin) Morrison and husband, Brian of Presque Isle; and Connor Reeves of Skowhegan. He is predeceased by parents, Henry and Christine (Beaulieu) Gagnon; brother, Paul Gagnon; sisters Maxine (Gagnon) Thompson and Connie Gagnon and baby Alice Marie Gagnon.
Pat did things “his way!” A celebration of his life will be held at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in Presque Isle on Monday, June 11, visitation from 10-11 a.m., with a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A reception will follow services at the funeral home. He thought that flowers at a funeral “are a waste of money”. So his preference is for a donation to be made to the American Cancer Society 1-800-227-2345 or to 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.duncan-graves.com.
