Ark Animal Sanctuary news

Since the Ark Animal Sanctuary was started, we have been a work in progress. We would like to give you an update about what we have accomplished in the first five months of 2012. We have had 10 fundraisers which have brought in $8,072.66. Our expenses for the last 5 months were $9,075,83. We have adopted 30 cats and 20 dogs since January.
Please keep in mind that we receive no town or state funding and we have no paid employees. We are run strictly by volunteers. Our total income comes from fundraising every other weekend and donations. We are out there rain or shine. There are no sick days or vacations. The animals depend on us every single day of the year and we have made a commitment to take care of them.
Our bake sales have become famous along with our pulled pork, meatball subs, beans and chili. If you have never been to one of our bake sales you don’t know what you are missing.
Our volunteers are the silent heroes that make the Ark such a success. Our board members are hands-on. They are involved in every aspect of running the Ark, from caring for the animals to fundraising.
You, the public, have been a tremendous help supporting us, reading our articles, spreading the word about the work we do, coming to our fundraisers and adopting the animals that we have taken in and cared for.
We have made our mistakes along the way but we have learned from those mistakes. Every bump in the road only makes us stronger and better. We are very proud of our organization and the work we do.
We are diligently working on our cabin. We have managed to put on a new roof, purchase the counter tops for the bathroom and kitchen as well as sinks and faucets. We have purchased new kitchen cabinets and have had a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher and pellet stove donated. Our computer has been donated, as well as a washer and dryer and air conditioner along with paint for the outside of the cabin. We are doing all of this on top of all of things mentioned above. The materials have all been donated or are paid for in full. At no time have we taken any money away from the care of the animals. We do not have a date of when the cabin will be up and running, but we anticipate that the date will not be far away. We will keep you updated on our progress.
If you would like to help us with the construction on the cabin or donate some building materials, we need insulation, sheet rock, plywood, 2x4s, plumbing materials and flooring. For more information, contact me at The Hollywood Pet Salon at 532-7387.
For the month of May, we took in $1,214 in donations and fundraising. Our expenses were $2,363.51. We took in one dog and adopted four. One dog passed away. We currently have two dogs available. We took in no new cats, but one cat delivered six kittens. We adopted nine cats and currently have 49 available.
We invite you to joins us for our “It’s raining cats and dogs adopt-a-thon” on Saturday, June 9, outside Hollywood Pet Salon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The adoption fee on all adult cats will be waived to qualifying homes.
We will have a rummage sale, baked goods, dinners to go, pulled pork, chili, meatball subs, beans, Italian sausage and peppers, hamburgers and hot dogs. We will also be at the Horn of Plenty on Wednesday, June 13, and there will be a bake sale on Saturday, June 23 outside Hollywood Pet Salon.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
