PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Approximately 45 people participated in a walk May 20 to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research.
Kathy Levesque, team leader of the “AJM Aroostook County Team” of walkers, said Kelly Lamoreau’s “Team Tucker” was a big help to the effort, and this year’s event raised more than $6,000. At the end of their walk, participants were treated to a picnic lunch of hot dogs at Riverside Park. The cooks were Tom Thibodeau, Ron Beaulieu and Dan Levesque.
According to the website (www.cff.org), “Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States … The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure.”
In the mid-20th century, few children with the disease lived to be old enough to go to school. Now with advances in treatment, many of these people can expect to live into their 30s and beyond.
