PRESQUE ISLE — An open house is planned for Thursday, Aug. 23, to provide the new president of the University of Maine at Presque Isle an opportunity to meet community members.

UMPI President Linda Schott was named the replacement for President Don Zillman this spring. Schott assumed the duties shortly after the 2012 graduation ceremony and has been busy settling in at the campus.

Schott and her family will be hosting an open house in conjunction with the first day of the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest and are looking forward to meeting members of the community.

The president and her family invite community members to “bring your family to meet our family” during this special end of summer event. The pie and ice cream social will take place from 3-5 p.m. at the president’s house, located at 171 Main St. The event will also feature activities for kids and teenagers, plus a walk to a high spot on campus to view the first of the ascending balloons.
