join Presque Isle hospital

    PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Medical Center welcomes nine new health care providers. These new providers offer a wide range of services from anesthesiology to colorectal surgery to residents of northern Maine.

    Meghan Dinneen,  FNP, joined TAMC’s Family Practice/Internal Medicine office, located on North Street in Presque Isle, as a family nurse practitioner. In October, Dinneen will join the team at TAMC’s Caribou Health Center. She earned her nursing degree from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 2008 and a master’s degree from the Felician College in New Jersey in 2011. Prior to joining TAMC, Dinneen worked as a registered nurse for Cary Medical Center specializing in acute care and day surgery services. She is also fully certified in medical aesthetics.

    Dr. Anuj Kandel

  has joined Dr. Celso Dias, Dr. Mahendra Sheth and Patrick Sawyer, PA-C at Aroostook General & Vascular Surgery Center. He is a general surgeon specializing in colorectal surgery

    Dr. Kandel earned his medical degree from Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Nepal. He completed his residencies at North Shore University Hospital in New York in 2011 and then completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery from Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Maryland. He is currently pursuing board certification in general and colon and rectal surgery.

    Dr. Roy Kaplan

has joined TAMC’s anesthesia department. Prior to joining the medical staff, Dr. Kaplan practiced at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Va.

    Dr. Kaplan earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. His residencies were completed at Baylor College of Medicine, Boston Children’s Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Kaplan is board certified in both anesthesiology and pediatrics. He completed a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Following the completion of his pediatric residency, Dr. Kaplan served in the U.S. Public Health Services National Health Service Corps at Revere Health Center in Revere, Mass.

    Dr. Robert Leatherman

  has joined Dr. Joseph Field in TAMC’s radiology department. He most recently worked for American Imaging and MRI in Marion, Ind.

    Dr. Leatherman earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree in 1998 from Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency training at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich. in 2003. He also completed a neuroradiology fellowship in 2004 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Radiology.

    Dr. Mark Morin

  has joined Dr. Stephen Martin at Eye Care Services. Prior to joining the medical staff, Dr. Morin was most recently employed as the senior ophthalmologist at Trinity Health Systems which serves patients from North Dakota and eastern Montana.

    Dr. Morin earned his medical degree and a master of science degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, Calif. He completed a transitional internship at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wisc. and completed ophthalmology medical training at the University of Iowa. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

    Anna Nikachina,

  MD, Ph. D, has joined orthopedic surgeons Dr. Merrill Hersey, Dr. William Rice and Dr. Deenesh Sahajpal at the Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Center.

    Dr. Nikachina helps manage pain associated with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. She offers expert diagnosis, injections, physical and occupational therapy plan of care, and prescription of prosthetics, assisted devices, and/or orthotics.

    From diagnosis to physical therapy, Dr. Nikachina treats the entire patient, not just their symptoms. Dr. Nikachina concentrates on restoring a patient to their highest level of function. She will work closely with the orthopedic surgical team, as well as physical and occupational therapists to keep her patients active at any age. She is also the medical director for TAMC’s Rehab Services.

    Dr. Deenesh Sahajpal

  has joined Drs. Hersey and Rice at the Orthopedics Sports Medicine Center. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, wrist and knee including ACL repair.

    Dr. Sahajpal, a French/English-speaking Canadian, earned his doctorate of medicine in 1999 from Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Subsequently, he completed a shoulder-elbow upper extremity fellowship at New York University-Hospital for Diseases in New York, as well as a sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery/Sports Medicine.

    Patrick Sawyer,

 PA-C, earned his degree as a physician assistant from Duke University in Durham, N.C. in 1990. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

    Sawyer has joined TAMC’s General and Vascular Surgery Center where he will be working with Drs. Dias, Kandel and Sheth. Prior to joining TAMC, he has practiced in surgery in Seattle, Portland, Ore., Denver and Los Angeles during a career that has spanned 22 years.

   Dr. Rachel Swartz

  has joined Dr. Hebert and Dr. Nguyen at OB/GYN & Midwifery Services. Prior to joining TAMC, Dr. Swartz practiced at Glenns Ferry Health Center, Inc. in Mountain Home, Idaho since 2007. Dr. Swartz’s special interest is in urogynecology, including both conservative and surgical treatments.

    Dr. Swartz earned her medical degree from Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine in 2000. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of South Alabama in 2005. Dr. Swartz has been certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2009.
