Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin was honored by the Maine Chiefs of Police Association over the weekend when he received the “President’s Award.” Asselin is active in the Association and has been a member for 15 years. He represents the Aroostook police chiefs and sheriff (District 8) at the group’s board meetings at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and during conferences. He also belongs to different committees representing District 8. Outgoing MCOPA President Michael Gahagan, chief of the Caribou Police Department, presented the award to Asselin. “All I can say is that receiving the award was totally unexpected and it’s quite an honor to be recognized by the MCOPA president for one’s contribution. The award was even more meaningful because Chief Gahagan presented it to me. Chief Gahagan is an outstanding police chief, a superb person and a great friend. It was an emotional moment for both Chief Gahagan and I,” Asselin said. With him is Gahagan.
