For you followers of Dusty’s Old Time Jamboree, you will be happy to hear they will be playing at the Mapleton Lion’s Hall Sunday, Oct. 7 from 2-4:30 p.m. The group is celebrating its 12th year. If you have not taken the time to stop in to enjoy these talented local musicians, why not put this on your calendar?

Church supper

The Mapleton United Methodist Church will be serving a chicken pie supper Saturday, Oct. 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. The menu will include chicken pie with biscuits, mashed potato with gravy, peas, squash, stuffing, cranberry sauce, apple pie with ice cream and pumpkin pie. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Musical entertainment will follow the supper.

Annual Girl Scout fundraiser

Local Girl Scouts are taking part in their annual fall fundraiser now through the middle of October. No, it’s not cookie time yet! (That will come in January). Girls will be approaching family, friends and coworkers of their parents selling nuts, candy and magazine subscriptions. During the sale, customers will also have an opportunity to make a $5 donation to help purchase canned nuts to send to military troops near and abroad or $5 to assist with purchasing magazine subscriptions for VA hospitals including the Maine Veteran’s Home in Caribou.

Girls have the opportunity to earn funds for their troops, as well as fun incentive prizes for themselves. Those individuals meeting specific requirements can also work toward a free week at Girl Scout camp next summer. Please consider how you might be able to contribute to your local Girl Scouts.
