Houlton native named hospital CEO

    ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Englewood Community Hospital has announced the appointment of Dale F. Alward, as new chief executive officer effective Sept. 24.
    Alward, a native of Houlton, is relocating from Terre Haute Regional Hospital, a 278-bed acute care hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. where he has served for the past three years as chief operating officer and ethics and compliance officer. His tenure with HCA began in 2007 when he was appointed assistant administrator for Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, a 740-bed three campus acute care facility in Richmond, Va.

    “Dale’s healthcare career spans more than 23 years of serving in a variety of positions within the U.S. Air Force Medical Service and numerous community hospitals,” said Peter A. Marmerstein, president of the HCA West Florida Division.  “His outstanding leadership and community involvement skills, combined with a track record of success will be a wonderful addition for the Englewood community and our hospital staff and physicians who are committed to providing the highest quality of healthcare services and programs, locally.”

     Alward earned a master of health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va.; a master of public administration from Troy State University in Troy, Ala.; and a bachelor of science from Regents College in Albany, N.Y. Alward is a board certified fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives; a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of America and a lifetime member of the Air Force Officers Association.
    His recent community involvement includes serving on the board of directors for the Vigo County Education Foundation, United Way Wabash Valley and Federal Correctional Complex Community Relations. He also served for the past two years as chairperson for the Wabash Valley Heart Walk with the American Heart Association and was recognized as “Top Chef” for raising the most money for Terre Haute Children’s Museum – 100 Men Who can Cook in 2012, an event he has actively participated in for the past three years. He has received many outstanding leadership and other recognition awards throughout his career.
    Alward will relocate to Englewood with his wife Christy. They have two adult daughters.
