HOULTON — The Maine Center for Disease Control announced Sept. 13 that the Houlton Water Company had received the Federal CDC Water Fluoridation Quality award. The award recognizes those entities that consistently maintained the proper level of fluoride in their water system.
Sheila Pinette, Maine’s CDC director, said that ability of water operators in the state to keep fluoride levels where they need to be is improving the overall health of people living in those communities that provide the service.
The award is for calendar year 2011. The United States CDC initiated the Water Fluoridation Quality Award in 2002.
