Staying Local

Most of the potatoes that farmers are harvesting this fall will be shipped out of town and will come back to you as potato chips and french fries. However, you can be certain that the potatoes in the upcoming Houlton Rotary Auction were harvested locally and will be delivered fresh from the farm to the Rotary storeroom — and then to you, if you are the winning bidder.
“If you see a farmer this fall, thank him or her for their hard work in keeping your potatoes local, and then bid on the potatoes that they have generously donated so that you can also help with Rotary projects,” said Otis Smith of the Houlton Rotary.
