STOCKHOLM – Queenie Peterson, 96, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou. Queenie was born in Stockholm on September 18, 1916, the daughter of Florent and Leontine (Garand) Plourde.
Queenie was born and lived most of her life in Stockholm, living and working for a brief time in Worcester, MA where she married Ansel Peterson in 1941. In addition to raising her family, she worked for many years at General Foods/Birds Eye, and in her later years with the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging. She retired at the young age of 80 with the gratitude of her family and her community. She was active in her community throughout her life. She will be remembered as an active supporter of community activities such as the Parent Teachers Association and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, as well as an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA. In her 90th year she was honored as Grand Marshall in the Stockholm 125th Anniversary Parade. An outgoing, generous soul, she will be missed by her many friends and extended family.
She enjoyed independent living in her “little house in Stockholm” sharing the love and company of her many friends and relations until a serious injury in 2010 dictated she take up residence at the Maine Veterans’ Home surrounded by a whole new group of friends and caregivers.
Queenie is survived by her four sons and their spouses, James and Margaret Peterson of Winchester, OR, David and Valeria Peterson of Stockholm, Robert and Lillian Peterson of El Paso, TX and Thomas and Christine Peterson of Brunswick. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Henri Plourde of Seffner, FL, Gregory and Ada Plourde of Stockholm, Donald and Vi Plourde of Bradenton, FL; and sisters and brothers-in-law Mildred and George Lufkin of Old Town, Theresa and Donald Anderson of Caribou and sister-in-law Arlene Plourde of Westmanland.
She will also be missed by her ten grandchildren; Nancy (Patrick) Bentz of Scottsdale, AZ., Norma (Kevin) Kemp of Payson, AZ., Michael (Noretta) Peterson of Veazie, Matthew (Fritzi) Peterson of Frankfurt, Germany, Christina Peterson of Hazlet, NJ., Ryan, Barry and Kyle Peterson of El Paso, TX, Emily (Rob) Griffin of Portland and Callie (Noah) Davisson of North Haven, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Bryan Bentz of Scottsdale, AZ, Lucas and Zachary Peterson of Veazie, Jordan Peterson and Axel Peterson of El Paso, TX, Oskar Schwab of Frankfurt, Germany and Ezra Davisson of North Haven and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Queenie was predeceased by her husband Ansel Peterson in 1973, and her siblings, Candide Forsman, Orilla Forsman, Allen Plourde and Velma Lufkin.
Friends and family may call on Friday, October 19, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 20th, at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockholm, Rev. Gordon Compton officiating. Interment will be held at the Stockholm Cemetery. A time of fellowship will follow services at the church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to the Trinity Lutheran Church Second Century Fund in her memory.
