The release of the final Heal Point standings should take place Thursday in anticipation of the preliminary round of the playoffs, which is scheduled to be held Friday and Saturday.

There was plenty of soccer action in the region over the past week as teams were getting in their final regular season contests.

One of the biggest games took place Monday in Caribou as the Viking and Wildcat girls met for a rematch after PI had won the first meeting on Aug. 29, 6-4.

The Limestone-MSSM Eagles’ Tristan Kirk gets up to head a ball between a pair of Washburn players during Saturday’s match. The Eagles nipped the Beavers, 5-4.

This game, the regular season finale for both squads, proved to be another close battle as the score was tied three times and the lead switched hands on four occasions. However, Jordi Legassie provided the game-winning goal with 9:31 to play as PI came away with a 4-3 triumph.

Karlee Bernier of the Wildcats opened the scoring 12:10 into the first half, but Caribou’s Olivia Sleeper scored off a Delaney Williams assist with 1:32 to play before intermission to tie it.

The second half was also a back-and-forth affair, with Sarah Doak opening the scoring 9:28 in to give Caribou the edge. Chandler Guerrette of PI answered 1:15 later with an unassisted goal.

With 16:12 to play, Sleeper again connected off a Williams assist to make it 3-2 in favor of the Vikings, but Legassie tied the game by converting a Bernier assist with 12:35. Just 3:04 later, Legassie netted the game-winner, unassisted.

The Vikes fell to 8-5-1 with the loss. The team is in eighth place in Eastern Maine Class B, according to standings released Tuesday. The team’s only other game last week was last Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Fort Kent. It was the only time Caribou had failed to score at least one goal in a game all season.

In Class D, Washburn most likely sewed up the top seed with Monday’s 2-0 shutout victory over Fort Fairfield. The Beavers prevailed thanks to goals by Mackenzie Worcester and Carmen Bragg and the goaltending of Rayah Saucier, who saved nine of 12 shots.

Sarah Watt turned away 10 of 15 shots in goal for the Tigers,

Washburn’s record stands at 12-1-1. Fort Fairfield is fourth at 8-4-2. Limestone-MSSM is out of the playoff picture with its 3-10 record entering its regular season finale this afternoon against Wisdom in St. Agatha.

The boys’ regular season concludes with tonight’s Caribou-Presque Isle match at CHS. The game, which was postponed from Tuesday, gets under way at 7 p.m.

Caribou is currently in fourth place with its 8-4-1 record, while PI is one position back at 7-3-3. When the two teams met for the first time in PI, the Wildcats scored a 2-1 victory. The winner of tonight’s game will most likely finish in the top four and avoid having to play a preliminary playoff game.

The Vikes recorded a huge win last Tuesday as they handed previously-undefeated Madawaska its first loss by a score of 3-0. Nolan McDuffie scored twice and Kameron Manter had the other goal for the Vikings, who lost to Fort Kent two nights later, 2-1.

Washburn appears destined for a road prelim contests. The Beavers are 6-6-2 and in ninth place in Eastern Maine Class D.

The Beavers closed out their season Monday with an 8-0 romp over Fort Fairfield, who will miss the playoffs with its 2-11-1 record. Washburn lost at home to Limestone-MSSM Saturday, 5-4.

The Eagles are in 14th place with their 4-9-1 record. Since only the top 13 teams make the playoffs, it appears coach Jon Hamilton’s squad will miss out this season.
