Houlton Farms donates proceeds
from special dish
PRESQUE ISLE — Officials with Houlton Farms Dairy recently presented a check for just over $1,000 to representatives of The Aroostook Medical Center. The donation represents the proceeds from the sale of a special dish of ice cream that Houlton Farms Dairy featured during the month of August in honor of TAMC’s 100th birthday.
TAMC TEAM MEMBERS recently accepted a large check from Mary Lincoln of Houlton Farms Dairy. The donation represented the funds raised from the sale of the special TAMiC dish that was featured at Houlton Farms dairy bars throughout Aroostook County in August. Joining in the presentation were, from left: Mary Hamilton, certified nurse midwife; Lincoln; Roland Joy, TAMC vice president and chief nursing officer; Irene Bouchard, manager of TAMC Women’s and Children’s Unit; and Dr. Rachel Swartz, OBGYN. Proceeds from the special promotion will go toward the purchase of a Giraffe Warmer that will assist in providing care to premature babies at TAMC.
TAMiC, which stands for Truly Aroostook Made ice Cream, was a limited-time offering featured at dairy bars in Presque Isle, Caribou and Houlton. The unique menu item featured one scoop each of Houlton Farms Dairy’s signature vanilla, strawberry and blueberry ice creams served in either a waffle cone or dish — per the customer’s request. The treat was garnished with equally patriotic red, white and blue sprinkles and strawberry sauce to provide a brilliant splash of red.
An order cost $4 (plus sales tax), with $1 from the sale going toward the purchase of a Giraffe Warmer that will assist in providing care to premature babies at TAMC. The warmers provide uninterrupted thermal support while at the same time giving a caregiver or a team of caregivers complete access and visibility to the newborn, making it much easier to perform procedures such as X-rays and surgery.
Houlton Farms Dairy additionally matched each dollar raised through the promotion to support the pediatric equipment purchase. Just over 500 TAMiC dishes were sold and a check for $1,018 was presented to TAMC by Houlton Farms Dairy.
