PRESQUE ISLE — The first annual Rob’s Pit Stop Car Show was considered a huge success, with dozens of cars on display, ranging from the 1930s to the newest model, a 2013 Dodge Dart. Funds raised from the event will benefit David Cowett, a former Presque Isle resident who now resides in Wilton who is undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.

“We had over 50 cars, with Best in Show going to Eli Murchison, of Presque Isle, and his 1964 Cadillac. Prizes were presented in a variety of classes, with each participant receiving an award of some type,” said Dave’s brother, Rob Cowett, who organized the show at his Fort Road business.

Cowett said he was pleased with the turnout.

“The rain held off just long enough for us to hold the show. We raised approximately $2,500 for Dave and his family, which will help with expenses as he continues to undergo treatment.”

Despite the short notice, Cowett said participants came from far and wide to take part in what promises to be the first of many such shows.

“We’ll definitely have another. We had a lot of good support, with entries coming from as far away as Canada and Massachusetts. It was a really good show with a lot of amazing entries,” he said. “Our oldest vehicle was a 1931 Graham owned by Gerald Michaud, with the newest being a 2013 Dodge Dart from Percy’s Auto Sales in Presque Isle.”

Cowett said none of this would have been possible without public support.

“I’d like to thank all of our sponsors, participants and the public for making this fundraiser a success. Speaking for my brother, Dave, and our family, we’re grateful for the support,” said Cowett.
