PRESQUE ISLE — The TD Charitable Foundation, funded by TD Bank, recently donated $10,000 to Aroostook County Action Program, Inc. (ACAP) as part of the bank’s commitment to giving back to the community.
ACAP provides services and resources that help individuals and families achieve greater economic independence. As a leader, or in partnership with others, ACAP provides guidance to the community in responding to emerging human needs. ACAP has five major program areas to meet those emerging needs: Health, Child and Family, Energy and Housing, Employment and Training, and Community Services. ACAP, a 501c3 non-profit organization, was founded in 1972 and is one of 10 community action programs in Maine and one of approximately 1,000 nationwide. The funds from the TD Charitable Foundation will be used by ACAP’s Energy and Housing to support the Homeowner Repairs for Low-Income Elders. For more information on ACAP or any of its programs or services, please visit the website at www.acap-me.org, call (207) 764-3721, or stop by the ACAP main office at 771 Main St. in Presque Isle.
Jeffrey Heron, ACAP’s Housing Development Officer, who will administer the funds, stated, “I receive calls on a regular basis from elderly county residents looking for help with home repair. There have been many times where we were not able to help due to a lack of funds. We do our best to refer them to other resources knowing that there may not be any. This is an unfortunate reality. We don’t like saying we can’t help. TD Charitable Foundation funds will allow us to help a few more seniors and this is good news for those in need.”
A staunch commitment to active involvement in the local community is a vital element of the TD Bank philosophy. TD Bank and the TD Charitable Foundation provide support to affordable housing, financial literacy and education, and environmental initiatives, many of which focus on improving the welfare of children and families.
