Successful Santa’s Workshop relied on many elves

CCNewsThe chamber office is becoming home now as the second week of this new adventure has passed by. I really enjoy coming to work each day.

The big event of the week, of course, was the Santa’s Workshop Celebration that was held Friday, December 7 at the Caribou Wellness Center. This joint project of the Caribou Recreation Department and the chamber attracted hundreds of local folks and was a big success. Stay tuned for the next chamber newsletter for pictures!

No event can take place without a lot of planning and people going above and beyond to help make it happen. This seems like the perfect and appropriate place to thank all those who made this time so special.

• First, much thanks has to go to Wayne Spink, who wore a very special suit for the occasion.

• Much thanks goes to the Rec department and Kathy Mazzuchelli, Neal Sleeper and Matt Bouchard and all the kids there who helped to decorate.

• Thank you to the Fire Department and Chief Scott Suci for bringing Santa.

• Thank you to the barbershop singers, The Maine Event: Dean Rauch (Lead), Bob Cormier (Bass), Dick Ruggles (Baritone) and Don Olson and Dave Carrier (Tenors).

• Thank you to the Job Corps who came with 15 enthusiastic volunteers for the event and to Pam Buck for coordinating that effort.

• Thank you to the Caribou Pageant Queens: Victoria Keaton (Teen Miss Caribou), Kelsey Kiehn (Junior Miss Caribou), Mariah Mink (Miss Pre-teen Caribou) and Sherrill Campbell who organized their appearances.

• Much thanks goes to the employees of The County Federal Credit Union that put together four hundred goodie bags: Ken Hensler, Jan Beaulieu, Heidi Thompson, Karen Theriault, Craig Sjoberg, James Mattila, Nolan Mattila, Ashley Corriveau, Danielle Michaud and Emily Michaud.

• Thank you to Shelly McHatten, who volunteered her time.

• Thank you to the Chamber board who planned and executed and gave many hours to the project: Lisa Cantafio, Peggy Smith, Cathy Duffy-Collins and lead elf, Laurie Colton.

• Thank you to Nikita Cate, who did much to help this event.

• Thank you to Laurie’s young elves who helped: Brian Colton and Meaghan Ireland

• And lastly, much thanks to Tim Hortons for providing so much hot chocolate at a greatly reduced price.

Whew! I hope nobody was forgotten in that list.

In other news, the new website project is still ongoing. Wait until you see it! The new website will be a great benefit to the city and the chamber members. We should be able to unveil the site by early January if things go well.

A database project is almost completed and the database, once complete, will greatly automate regular chamber functions.

The Rotary Club has invited me to come speak at their luncheon on Monday, Jan. 9, 2013 and that invite was much appreciated. It will be a pleasure to introduce myself to the members of that fine club.

As of this writing, there were no member visits this week as the car spent some spa time at the garage.

One quick note: The chamber is no longer a drop-off point and processor for UPS shipping.

And finally, happy anniversary wishes go to Plourde Furniture Company who became a member of the chamber way back on Dec. 5, 1973 and to Chadwick-BaRoss Inc., who started membership on Dec. 9, 2005.
