• All persons desirous of visiting the Alaska gold fields will get information as to the cost of transportation by calling on the C. P. R. R. Co.’s station agent in this village.
• As George Hannah was driving on Main Street near Shaw & Mitton’s grocery store Monday night, his horse slipped, and falling broke both thills. The horse was not injured.
100 Years Ago-Dec. 12, 1912
New jeweler in town — Mr. and Mrs. Woodside Loane of Ashland have moved to here (to Washburn) and occupy the rent in Spencer Humphrey’s house on South Main Street. Mr. Loane is to engage in the jewelry business and watch repairing and already has quite a deal of work on hand.
Pungs for sale — Mack Bouchard is advertising pungs for sale made by Haggard Bros. of Houlton. “The best pung made.” Also advertised are surry sleighs, robes, blankets, harnesses, etc.
75 Years Ago-Dec. 16, 1937
Singing sisters — The Harmony Trio, composed of three sisters, the Misses Maxine, Avis and Lorraine Harmon, as well as musician Frank Chase have gone on the air. This quartet, of whom the residents of Caribou are proud, will be heard from Presque Isle radio station WAGM at 5:30 o’clock on Friday afternoons.
Men’s shopping night — The Pattee Co. is repeating “Men’s Night” once again this season as, on that date, the salesladies will be given a well-earned night off and Nate and Dale will hold forth. Then mere man, who probably is not sure whether he intends to buy a camisole or casserole, brassiere or bassinet, can unblushingly ask for his purchase. A bouncer will be on hand to see that no woman intrudes.

USO news — The USO Club located at 121 High Street has announced stepped-up programming to men and women of the Armed Forces and their dependents in the area. This week’s schedule includes classes in algebra, history and English and a special naturalization class for foreign wives of military men.
Values with stamps — Two new savings stamp redemption centers opened for business in central Aroostook County this week: the Top Value Stamps Redemption Store on North Main Street, Presque Isle and the newly remodeled United Stamps Redemption Store located at 138 Sweden Street in Caribou.

All I want for Christmas — Teague Park second graders shared their thoughts and wishes for Christmas with the Aroostook Republican. A remote controlled car, scooter, Transformers robot figures, Barbie, bicycle, puppy and Cabbage Patch Doll were a few of the requested presents.
Burrelle’s recognizes two — As part of an ongoing employee recognition program, officials at Burrelle’s Press Clipping Service have selected Bonnie Johnson and Clare Kierstead as December “Employees of the Month.”
