POWERS , Jeannette Appoline (Richard), 90, CARIBOU, at Presque Isle, December 7, 2012. Arrangements are in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

    CARIBOU – Jeannette Appoline (Richard) Powers, 90, passed away peacefully with her children at her side at the Presque Isle Nursing Home on December 7, 2012. She was born in Bouctouche, N.B., Canada, on December 4, 1922, the daughter of Fermin and Madeleine (Leger) Richard.
    She attended schools in Bouctouche and Moncton, NB, and later moved to Hartford, CT, where she was employed at the Hartford Insurance Company. On January 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Justin Powers. After their wedding in Hartford, they moved to Caribou where she supported her husband in founding Powers Roofing and Sheet Metal, where she served as bookkeeper for many years. In Caribou, Jeannette was also employed at the McGrath Insurance Agency until the birth of her eldest child. She enjoyed summers at their camp at Cross Lake, and she and Justin will be remembered for catching the largest Lake Trout (Togue) ever caught at Square Lake. In retirement, she and Justin spent several winters in Florida and California, and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and eastern Canada. Jeannette enjoyed golfing, playing cards with family and friends, and snowmobiling in the winter. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
    Jeannette was predeceased by her husband of 50 years; her parents; five brothers and a sister.
    She is survived by her seven children: Lynn Voisine and her husband, Alan of Cross Lake, Don and his wife, Cindy of Madawaska Lake, Paul and his wife, Mary of Woodland, Ken of Caribou, Michelle Michaud and her husband, Dale of Winslow, Sue of New Gloucester, John and his wife, Tracy of Caribou; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
    The family expresses their thanks to the Aroostook Agency on Aging, and especially to the staff of the Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
    Friends called at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, on Monday, Dec. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Rosary Church, 31 Thomas Ave. in Caribou on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Jeannette may make gifts in her memory to: Holy Rosary Church (Christmas Food Basket Fund), 31 Thomas Avenue, Caribou, ME 04736; or to the Jefferson Cary Foundation (Women’s Imaging Center) at Cary Medical Center, 163 Van Buren Road, Caribou, ME 04736.
