Limestone site of swim meet

LIMESTONE — The Caribou swim team hosted Presque Isle and Foxcroft Academy in a meet held at the Limestone Community School pool Saturday afternoon.

On the boys’ side, Viking Darren Newbegin swam the 100-yard freestyle in 1:02.76 to place first overall.

He was also second in the 100 backstroke in 1:17.86. Grant Bennett, also of Caribou, took second in the 50 freestyle in 28.72 seconds, as did teammate Austin Scott in the 100 butterfly in 1:17.28.

Rachel Wasson of Caribou won the 500-yard freestyle in 7:54.07, while the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Katie Pelletier, Olivia Engstrom, Jensen Jones and Andromeda Grondin, was the winner in 6:36.66.

Caribou also competed in a meet held at Mount Desert Island on Dec. 21.

Tom McLean of the Vikes won the 50 freestyle in 32 seconds.

The girls’ 200 medley relay team, made up of Pelletier, Krsna Johnson, Wasson and Laksmis Johnson, took second place out of five teams at 2:56.16.

The boys’ 200 medley relay team, the girls’ 200 freestyle relay team and the boys’ 400 freestyle relay team all turned in second-place performances.
