Utility District

The Mars Hill Utility District gives notice to the public that on Monday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at the Central Aroostook High School music room a public hearing will be held to discuss and hear comments on a proposed water rate increase. The increase would become effective on April 1, 2013.
A copy of material supporting the proposed rate changes is available at the Mars Hill Utility District, the Mars Hill Town Office or the Blaine Town Office.

United Methodist Women

The Mars Hill United Methodist Women met on Monday, Jan. 14. Those attending were: Donna Brewer, Diane Ketchum, Joan Boone, Daisy Campbell and Elaine Bailey. A lunch was enjoyed followed by dessert provided by Elaine. The meeting was called to order by President Donna Brewer where all joined in praying the Prayer of Invocation followed be the Purpose of United Methodist Women.
Since our secretary, Clara Hussey, was not in attendance, the secretary’s report was omitted. Diane Ketchum gave the treasurer’s report which was approved as presented. She also read many thank-you notes for donations received from our group.
After some discussion, it was decided that we would no longer do the bake sale for the Winterfest. Our members are fewer and older. We thought that if we announced it soon enough, some other group might like to do this.
Because of the great needs of the Hope & Justice program (formerly Battered Women’s Project), it was decided to help out by colleting needed items. Hopefully, this will be a church-wide endeavor.
Following the business meeting, Donna and Elaine involved all present in a program which explained what the UMW Purpose Pledge is all about.
The meeting ended with all praying the Benediction.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Jan. 15, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The guest speaker was Mark Bourgoin, manager of safety and security services at TAMC. He handles the security at all TAMC facilities.
There has been uniformed security officers on site 24/7 at the Presque Isle facility for the last five years. The emergency room area sees a lot of need for security in this day and age. Drug-related problems are unfortunately becoming more and more common.
All TAMC facilities have the exterior doors locked at 8 p.m. Employees continue to be trained in safety issues. The facility uses MOAB training (management of aggressive behavior) and has the Presque Isle Police Department as backup.
