MAPLETON NEWS

by Jennifer Buzza

Plans are now under way for the 25th annual Mapleton Daze festivities. This year the parade will return, and those interested in participating are encouraged to reserve their spot now. The committee would like to see the return of traditional float entries, but any and all are welcome to join the parade.

The parade is set for Saturday, June 29 at 9:30 a.m. For more information or to reserve a spot, please contact Deana Easler at 540-7055 or easler.dee45@gmail.com.

Birthdays

Birthday wishes this week go out to Lorie Hoffses, Bruce McEachern, Morgan House, Bob Lewandowski, Anne Braley, Anna White, Carrlyn Buck, Jerica Fox, Anna Trombley, Mitchell DeBlois and Anya Brewer.

Town reports due

The Town Office is requesting reports and/or photos from department directors, board directors, local clubs, organizations, queens and others wishing to be included in the 2012 Town Report. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 1. Those submitting reports and photos are encouraged to send them as an attachment through e-mail to tgetchell@mapletontownoffice.com. If you have any questions, contact Tammy Getchell at the Town Office at 764-3754.

Last chance to order

If you would like Girl Scout cookies, the deadline to place an order is Sunday, Jan. 27. This year the Girl Scouts of Maine is introducing a new cookie for this year’s sale. It is called “Mango Crème” and pairs mango flavor with a vanilla/coconut flavor crème sandwiched between two cookie wafers. Also new this year is a price increase. After 10 years, Girl Scouts of Maine officials made the difficult decision to move the price of a box of cookies from $3.50 to $4. This increase aligns with the rest of the country and will also provide more funding for Maine Girl Scouts and their troops. In an effort to “go green,” a couple of the cookies will be packaged in eco-friendly wrap rather than cardboard boxes. All packaging has had an update, with new photos and logo.

Please support local Girl Scouts by placing an order this month, or stopping by a cookie booth in a location near you in March. If you are unable to eat cookies for health reasons, please ask how you can place an order to benefit local charities or VA hospitals in Maine.

MAPLETON GIRL SCOUT TROOP 1133 recently invited guest speaker Darcy McBay to one of their Saturday morning meetings. The girls were working on earning their “Cookie CEO” and “Customer Insights” badges and needed to interview a female small business owner. McBay talked about The Mapleton Diner, the business she and her husband, Bob, own. She explained the difficulties in owning your own business, as well as the expenses involved and the importance of good customer service. As a special treat, she shared some freshly made donut holes with the troop. Pictured are, from left: Madelyn Buzza, Katelyn Amero, Amanda Winslow, Alexis Getchell, Sydney Robichaud, McBay, Alexis LaFerriere and Bethany Baker. Absent when the photo was taken were troop members Delaney Alward and Rebecca Rider.
