HOULTON, Maine — On Saturday evening, March 2, the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Dinner Meeting for the membership and friends.
“This annual event brings the people who are invested in this community together for an evening of fine dining, a brief business meeting, awards ceremony, and a fun-filled auction,” said Jane Torres, executive director for the Chamber. “The Chamber’s board of directors transforms the Houlton Lodge of Elks into an elegant and beautiful supper club with jazz music provided by David Wells, a lovely catered dinner preceded by hor’s d’oeuvres, and a fine selection of scrumptious desserts.”

The most important part of the evening is the recognition of people and businesses that the membership has voted for in a long process culminating in the election of two very deserving individuals, a club, and a long-standing business.
“As in years past, the list of businesses, groups and individuals was very impressive but in the end the tally gave us the obvious 2013 winners,” said Torres.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for a lifetime of consistent community contributions. Their actions, achievements and contributions evoke admiration and respect throughout the community and beyond. The 2013 recipient is Terry Wade.
Business of the Year has the following criteria, but is not limited to:  business growth and improvement; quality customer service; staying power; overall excellence in the marketplace; community contributions; major achievements within the business field and they must be a member of the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. The 2013 recipient is Katahdin Trust Company.
The Community Spirit Award recognizes an area individual who has shown extraordinary community spirit through acts of volunteerism and or any other manner of contribution to the area. The 2013 recipient is Lori Weston.
The Community Service Award recognizes groups who have consistently contributed to our community in any manner that has improved the quality of life to its community members through services or programs provided. The 2013 recipient is the Houlton Masonic Lodge No. 96.
“This event provides a perfect opportunity to enjoy a great meal and to connect with colleagues and friends while showing support for the award recipients,” Torres said. “It is not necessary to be a member of the Chamber to attend. You simply need to have a desire to be part of a wonderful evening. Simply call the Chamber (532-4216) to receive an invitation.”
