Children’s art classes offered

The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project and the Bangor Savings Bank will be sponsoring the third in a series of special six-week sessions of art classes for children at the Houlton Recreation Department. The classes are open to all second, third and fourth graders, free of charge.

Children will have an opportunity to work in a variety of media including charcoal, graphite, pastel and watercolor and they will learn about many fundamental visual art concepts such as values and shading, contours, linear perspective and color theory. This is a great opportunity for all children, especially those that have an interest in visual arts.
The classes will be taught by Frank Sullivan, an award-winning, full-time, professional artist, who lives and works in Littleton. He earned a B.A. in Visual Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and was awarded a graduate fellowship to the American University. He also completed a graphic design and illustration program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and has been teaching art professionally for more than 23 years.
Classes will be held at the Houlton Recreation Department’s Gentle Memorial Building on Tuesday afternoons from 3-4:30 p.m. beginning March 19. Students can register by calling 532-1310. Space is limited to 12 students, so be sure to register early.
