The Daughters of Isabella have been very busy since the start of the year, as three monthly meetings have been held and a fourth was slated for yesterday.
Regent Gail Hjort called the year’s first three meetings to order. In January, recipient of the Birthday was Claire Randolph and the 50/50 raffle was won by Adeline Beaulieu.
A request for donations to the Ronald McDonald House was read and the circle voted to send $60. A Christmas letter was received from Sandra and David Snyder. An invitation to the 85th anniversary of St. Cecelia Circle in Old Town was received.
January’s refreshment committee was Omerine Cyr, Josephine St. Peter, Brenda Corriveau and Jan Corriveau.
The State Convention will be held in Saco on Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19. The theme for the state convention is Surrendering to Christ in Faith. Daughters of Isabella wishing to attend should contact their local Circle Regent for more information.
The grade report for the circle’s scholarship recipient Paige Nadeau showed a 4.0 GPA and a thank-you note from Father Jean Paul Labrie was read.
Four more layettes were given out.
Rena Lagasse won the 50/50 raffle in February and again in March.
Cards were sent to Doris Albert, Jeanine Morneault, Josephine St. Peter, Joan Bishop, Sylvia Barclay, Lena Dyer, Omerine Cyr, Germaine Albair, Iva Deveau and Delores Tardie.
Thank-you’s were received from Ronald McDonald House, the family of Michael Albert, the family of Ralph Hanson, Father Emile Dube, and a letter from the Daughters of Isabella International Regent.
The circle voted to support their state charity this year; Religious Retirement, Catholic Foundation of Maine, Share Your Love and Scholarship; applications are available from Regent Gail Hjort for both local and state scholarships.
February’s refreshment committee was Claire Randolph, Tammy Nadeau and Brenda Corriveau. This year’s theme for their basket is Mother’s Day and each member is asked to bring in something for Mother’s Day to be taken to the State Convention in Saco.
Member Thelma Morin was given her 25-year pin at the March meeting.
A card from Anne Babbkirk was read, announcing her mother’s 90th birthday party. Jeanne Jalbert turned 90 on March 14.
A baby quilt was donated by Vi Cummings Sirois for the layettes. Prayers are requested for Theresa Wunderlich on March 13, and for Joan Bishop on March 22nd. It was moved by Claire Randolph and seconded by Vi Cummings to send the circle’s annual donation to the parish for the fuel fund. It was moved by Claire Randolph and seconded by Debbie Chabre to send regent Hjort to the state convention; both motions carried.
There were no winners from the circle for the 40 week club; Regent Hjort reminded everyone that dues are due. Dolores Martin reported on the discount cards and asked members to continue to sell them to benefit the circle’s many charities throughout the year.
March’s refreshment committee was Elaine Haines, Bea Pierie, Theresa Wunderlich and Donna Sturzl. Regent Hjort reminded everyone to sign the attendance and activity sheets at their next meeting on April 2.
