Lopsided softball scores

    The softball season is well under way, with the hopes of warm and dry weather. The scores are rather lopsided, but as the season progresses and players continue to shake off the rust, the margin of separation will likely shrink.
    Results for games played last week from April 23-29 are as follows:

    Houlton 1, Presque Isle 21 – The Houlton High School varsity girls softball team didn’t start the season out as they had hoped, falling to visiting Presque Isle last Tuesday, 21-1.

    Megan Seward and Liza Buck each hit a home run and double to lift the Wildcats to victory.
    Tanika Toby and Mikaela Tuttle both singled for Houlton.
    SACS 8, Limestone/MSSM 18 — On Saturday in Dyer Brook, the Eagles came from a first-inning 6-3 deficit to build a 11-6 lead in the fifth en route to their third win in three outings.
    Limestone’s Ellyzabeth Bencivenga struck out 11 and walked seven, allowing one earned run. Melissa Cantafio doubled and singled, along with Danielle Pelkey’s double and single. Kelsee Albert doubled and drove in two runs.
    For the Lady Warriors, Desirae Dubois had a three-run triple and Shanna Porter doubled. Southern Aroostook fell to 0-3.
    SACS 4, Hodgdon 18 — Last Tuesday, the Lady Hawks, behind Mackenzie York’s double, single and five RBIS, overpowered visiting Southern Aroostook.
    Danica Welton chipped in with a single, double and had four RBIs for Hodgdon, as well.

    Leading the Lady Warriors was Sable Altvater who doubled.

    Hodgdon 0, Fort Fairfield 14 — Monday at Hodgdon, Jordan Coiley pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout to stump the hosts.
    Jessi Tracy and Alicia Rockwell each singled for the 3-1 Lady Hawks.
    Katahdin 23, SACS 1 — In Stacyville last Thursday, the Lady Cougars overtook Southern Aroostook behind a 10-run first inning.
    Ashley Randall tossed a five-inning one-hitter and stroked two doubles and single for Katahdin. Megan Merry and Courtney Stevens each collected a pair of singles.
    Desirae DuBois singled for Southern Aroostook.
    Katahdin 15, Schenck 4 — Monday in East Millinocket, the Lady Cougars picked up their second win in two outings.
    Katahdin led 6-2 after the third, increasing their advantage to 12-3 after five innings.
    Makayla Patterson had four hits and two RBIs, while Merry added two hits and two RBIs to provide support for winning pitcher Ashley Randall, who allowed only three hits, striking out 14 .
    East Grand 26, Woodland 3 — At Woodland last Thursday, the Lady Vikings rolled to victory, as they broke open for an 11-run third to bury the Dragons, 21-1 after the third.
    Shawna Beaudoin singled twice and tripled, while Baleigh Rowe added two singles and a double for the winners.
    Wisdom 13,  East Grand  4— No additional information was available for the game played in Danforth on Saturday.
