HOULTON — On Monday, July 29, Dr. Ron Ouellette was the guest speaker of Becky Day. Dr. Ouellette spoke on the advantages of acupuncture. He has been a chiropractor for 25 years and practicing in Houlton for the last 19 years.

He will be fully certified and practicing acupuncture in his office on Court Street in September. He has been practicing acupressure for some time now and really wanted his patients to receive the full benefits. He has had to take a course consisting of 200 hours for his training.
His chiropractic licensure covers his acupuncture techniques. There are many reasons why one may visit a chiropractor and it is not just for your back or neck. There are many patients that find much needed relief for several issues such as allergies, bladder and bowel issues, arthritis and more.
Acupuncture can assist in these areas very well, along with many others like heart problems, lupus, high blood pressure. The use of acupuncture is not just about getting needles in a person. Most often it is also about using a variety natural remedies like teas or herbal supplements that Dr. Ouellette has also been thoroughly trained in.
Acupuncture is also recognized by the World Health Organization is a treatment for addictions. There are 395 acupuncture points used in traditional acupuncture and over 100 more used in the more non-traditional form. The traditional form began in China, which is also where many of the herbs that are use originated. The herbs that Dr. Ouellette uses are made in the USA.
He showed us the sizes of the needles that are currently used and they are much finer than years past. They generally only need to go into your skin about one and a half inches, which is the thickness of your thumb. Many of today’s health conditions can be treated non-medically, and with different techniques to include chiropractic and acupuncture.
