HOULTON – Greta A. Melvin, 95, died July 30, 2013, after a short illness at Houlton Regional Hospital. She was born July 2, 1918, in Monticello, the daughter of Harry and Julia Hartt.
Greta graduated from Ricker College and worked as a hair dresser in Presque Isle and Bangor, where she met her husband, Rolfe Melvin. She lived many years in Clinton, Maryland, vacationing in Maine a few weeks each summer. Upon Rolfe’s retirement, they extended their vacation from two weeks to the entire summer, enjoying time with family and friends. Upon Rolfe’s passing, Greta moved back to Maine and has been living at the Madigan since 2004.
Survivors include two children, Philip Melvin of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Julie Carroll of Derwood, Maryland; two grandchildren, Heather Carroll and Holly Carroll; brother, Henry Hartt of Ashton, Maryland; and sister, Gloria Jewell of Houlton.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 2 at the Dunn Funeral Home with Pastor Paula Lilley officiating. Interment was in Foster Cemetery, Moncticello.
