Janice “Red” Selinger passed away on July 26, 2013, in Middletown, New York after a lengthy illness. She was born in Machias, Maine on June 21, 1959, the daughter of Richard M. and Helena M. (Thornton) Maker.
She attended schools in Maine, graduating from Presque Isle High School and Andover College. During her relatively short life, she had a wide variety of experiences. She was a contestant in the Miss Maine Pageant; she became a licensed contractor; she was an extra in a “Police Academy” movie when she lived in Florida; she traveled to England and Australia; and she had three children of whom she was extremely proud.
She was predeceased by her parents as well as three of her brothers: Richard, Jr., Kenneth, and Johnny.
Red is survived by her children: son, David Selinger and his wife, Cynthia; daughter, Melissa Selinger; and son Alexander Homar. She is also survived by her sister, Nancy Yates and husband, Bob; sister, Nadine Belyea and husband, Dana; brother, Ronald Maker; sister, Karla Libby; sister, Julianna Jimmo; brother, Harold Maker and wife, Heather; sister, Davina Dickinson; sister, Susan Long and husband, Arthur; special friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at one o’clock at the Smyrna Mills cemetery on Saturday, August 17, 2013.
