BANGOR, Maine — “The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” is expanding into northern Maine. Beginning Saturday, Sept. 7, WAGM FOX 8 will begin airing Maine’s only late night talk show on Saturdays at midnight. “We had a couple of simple goals going into 2013,” said Nite Show host Danny Cashman. “One was to bring our show to the viewers of northern Maine. The other was to get Jimmy Fallon to be a guest on our show. We’ve achieved one of those goals, and Jimmy Fallon should be aware that operators are standing by to take his call.”
“The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” is a late night talk show based on national shows hosted by the likes of David Letterman, Johnny Carson and Fallon. The 30-minute weekly show originates from The Next Generation Theatre in Brewer, and features an opening monologue, a comedy bit, a guest interview, and usually a performance guest in every show. The show also features a live house band, The Jump City Jazz Band. Joe Kennedy serves as the show’s announcer, and the show is taped before a live studio audience. Previous guests have included folk singer/songwriter David Mallett, Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard, Gov. Paul LePage, Sen. Angus King, Miss Maine USA Ali Clair, F. Lee Bailey, former Major League Baseball player Matt Stairs, MMA fighter Marcus Davis, and many more.
“In all seriousness, our show really is unique to Maine,” said Cashman. “Viewers can come see our show taped live for free, or they can watch it from the comfort of their own home. Our show is modeled after the national late night talk shows, but we’re about as local as you’re going to get. I’m personally thrilled to have the show available throughout all of Aroostook County on FOX 8, and now — for the first time — statewide on broadcast television.”
“We are always interested in pursuing local programming when it is available,” said Linda Connolly, national and regional sales manager/program director at WAGM. “‘The Nite Show’ fits in very well with the existing programming on FOX 8, and it brings a local twist to a format that has performed well over the years in this area. We’re excited to bring ‘The Nite Show’ to WAGM.”
“The Nite Show with Danny Cashman” ranked as the number-one show on Saturday late nights in eastern and central Maine through WABI TV in Bangor in the most recent Nielsen ratings, beating out longtime Saturday late night staple, “Saturday Night Live.”
The show, which has been nominated for a New England Regional Emmy® Award and the Fusion:Bangor FLAVA, is produced by students and faculty from the New England School of Communications in Bangor. “The Nite Show” can also be seen in Bangor Saturday nights at 11:30 p.m. on WABI (CBS) and in Portland Saturday nights at 10 p.m. on WPXT (CW). Tickets for future shows are available by e-mailing tickets@theniteshowmaine.com. The first show that will air on WAGM will be taped Wednesday, Aug. 21.
