Two films showcasing Aroostook County people will be shown on MPBN in February — one for the first time and the other as a reminder of how an Olympian got his start.
“Awesome Aroostook” a one-hour video magazine program featuring amazing people, places and things in Aroostook County will have its broadcast premiere on Feb. 6 and 8. “Biathlon Comes To The County,” starring biathlete Russell Currier of Stockholm, will have an encore broadcast on Feb. 13 and 15.
Both films, produced by Madawaska Lake resident, Brenda Jepson, will be shown on the Maine Community Films program, transmitted statewide and throughout the Maritimes.
“Awesome Aroostook” was made by Crown Of Maine Productions while the biathlon film was created by Viking Video Productions at the Caribou Technology Center, where Jepson taught broadcast reporting and production from 1995–2010.
“It is wonderful that County folk will be showcased four times in February on statewide TV,” said Jepson, who worked on the shows with her husband, Alan. “There are people here in Aroostook whose amazing accomplishments we can feel excited about and proud of. It’s great to let viewers downstate know about them.”
Residents from Houlton to Fort Kent are featured in “Awesome Aroostook.” The youngest is a girl who composed a song at age 3, and the oldest was a senior, aged 88, who helped preserve the history of the Underground Railroad.
Nine stories capture the kindness, creativity and character found in persons living in the Crown of Maine including farmers, artists, inventors, scientists and historians.
“Biathlon Comes To The County” follows the fortunes of Currier as he competes in a World Cup event in Presque Isle in 2006 and shows how his early training has helped him progress to the Winter Olympics in Sochi this month.
