Olivia is an approximately 8-month-old, gray longhair cat currently living at a Halfway Home Pet Rescue foster home. She was found living under the crawlspace of a store in Caribou, where employees kept her fed until the cat’s capture could occur. Garrick Milton was shopping at the store one day when he spotted Olivia, and was able to quickly reach out and grab her; Milton then transported the cat to the Presque Isle Animal Hospital for treatment. Olivia has since had all her initial medical procedures completed, included a “Lion’s cut hairdo” to remove matted fur. “She is friendly, but shy, and will need time to adjust to the gentle care from humans as she has not been used gently or well cared for in the past,” explained HHPR President Norma Milton, explaining that Olivia is still quite thin and is anticipated to be available for adoption around the first part of March. Milton also said that the shelter’s Animal Welfare Angels this week are Mark Sleeper, Garrick Milton and officers with the Fort Fairfield Police Dept. who rescued a young female cat, Kristy, after someone allegedly tried to drown the feline. Kristy is about 7 months old and is currently residing in a HHPR foster home. “It is obvious from Kristy’s photo that she has been very badly mistreated and will require recovery time,” Milton said. She also expressed that HHPR is in need of cat litter, Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deodorant and postage stamps. All items can be left at the Adoption Center at 489 Main St., or at 11 Pioneer Ave. The shelter is also underway with its annual $1 challenge and have received almost $50 to date. “The challenge is a way for each person to give a little toward the health care of the homeless cats by making a donation in honor or in memory of their own loved pets,” Milton said. “If you send a photo of your pet with your dollars, it will be posted on the wall of the Adoption Center.
