    PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Police Department is participating in the First Friday Art Walk, asking for the public’s help in selecting the department’s next shoulder patch.

    “On Friday, April 4, all the submissions will be on display at the Northeastland Hotel as part of the First Friday Art Walk. Everyone is welcome to vote on their favorites that night. We will then post all of the submissions on Facebook and in other public venues in order to get as many votes as possible throughout the month of April,” said Chief Matt Irwin, PIPD.

    About 39 entries were received  and will be on display at the hotel at 436 Main St. In an effort to come up with a new design for the patch worn on officers’ uniforms, a contest was started earlier this year which encouraged residents to submit their ideas for a new design.

    Also participating:

• Wintergreen Arts Center, 149 State St., will be hosting Katie Huntley of Squid Ink Jewelry;
• Morning Star Art & Framing, 422 Main St., features artist Kati Christoffel,  Clifton Park, N.Y.;
• Reed Gallery, University of Maine at Presque Isle, 181 Main St., will host an exhibit by Daniel Minter entitled “A Heavy Grace,” which will be on display through April 19;
• The Whole Potato Cafe, 428 Main St., will present the AMHC Sexual Assault T-Shirt Project, with music and an open mic; and
• Merchants on the Corner, 394 Main St., will be hosting a free beer tasting event.
