168 walk for Pregnancy Care Center

The Pregnancy Care Center of Aroostook held its annual Walk for Life May 15 to raise funds to support the non-profit organization which has met the needs of pregnant women since 1985.

The PCC offers pregnancy tests, maternity and infants clothing, material assistance (diapers, wipes, lotions, etc.), parenting classes, educational resources, and  post-abortion counseling. All services are free and confidential. The PCC does not provide or make referrals for abortion.
The organization has three locations — Fort Kent, Presque Isle and Houlton. A walk was held in each area in an effort to support the yearly budget of approximately $110,000. The total amount raised was $17,900.
Houlton had 63 walkers representing nine churches and raised $6,000, Presque Isle had 75 walkers representing 10 churches and raised $10,000 and Fort Kent had 30 walkers representing five churches and raised $1,900.
PCC relies on fundraisers such as the Walk for Life to sustain the yearly budget of approximately $110,000.
“This year we set a record raising the most at our walk since I have been here,” said PCC director Christie Corey. “This is a big help and we appreciate everyone who worked hard to make this possible.  Several walkers raised over $500 and a couple raised over $1,000.”
Presque Isle held its walk in memory of a volunteer Lois Woollard, who was a faithful volunteer who came in every week giving her time and talent. Woollard’s husband made pink and blue bracelets and key chains to give to all who walked.
“We are so thankful for the volunteers who dedicate themselves to serving the clients in Aroostook County,” Corey said.
