MAPLETON, Maine — Alcohol is believed to be a factor in an accident that injured a Presque Isle man Sunday night when he lost control of his motorcycle as he traveled the Hanson Lake Road.
“Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on the Hanson Lake Road in Mapleton at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. Robert Rossignol, 54, of Presque Isle, was operating his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling toward the State Road when he failed to negotiate a turn and left the road, striking a culvert,” said Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Crandall said the bike flipped several times before coming to rest in the grass.
“Rossignol, who was not wearing a helmet, received head injuries and was transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, where he is currently listed in stable condition,” Crandall said.
The motorcycle is considered a total loss.
“Excessive speed and alcohol are contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by sheriff’s deputies,” said Crandall.
Troopers with the Maine State Police also assisted at the crash scene.
