• Dr. G. C. Upham and James H. Glenn, the hardware merchant, went to Bangor Wednesday.
• Rev. and Mrs. Stanford Mitchell have returned to Caribou and services will be resumed in the Universalist Church.
100 Years Ago-Aug. 27, 1914
• News from East Washburn — Thieves have begun their work by entering into some of the cellars and helping themselves to preserves, eggs, etc. Wood Bros. suffered a great loss last Saturday night losing their new farm buildings, horses, hay, farming tools and machinery. John Pettingill is working for Edison Easler, the two recently went to Limestone blueberrying.
• Calling all picklers — In their advertisement Gammon’s Drug Store is offering the following pickling products: white mustard seed, black mustard seed, caraway, celery seed, black pepper seed, coriander, cinnamon bark and all spice seed, and golden turmeric for pickles that will be “crisp and perky.”

• Airport News — Pilot Richard Graves of Presque Isle landed at the Caribou Municipal Airport Wednesday morning in his new Aeronica plane. The Boston-Maine Airways moved Tuesday into their new and enlarged quarters at the Caribou Municipal Airport.
• News from Stockholm — Curtis Cooper has built a temporary store in front of the old one while he is building a new store and home at Madawaska Lake. Congratulations are extended to Rev. and Mrs. Hartley Osterlund on the birth of a daughter, Ruth Lorraine; Nurse Hilur Olson is caring for them. Gunner Sandstrom has purchased a house from Olof Ek and is repairing and painting the inside.

• Noyes wins tri-state speech contest — Paul Noyes of Caribou was congratulated by Alton Bridges, advisor for the Caribou Chapter of Future Farmers of America, for winning the Tri-State FFA Speaking Contest at the University of New Hampshire at Durham. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton P. Noyes.
• Billiard room opens in Caribou — There was another addition this week to Caribou’s ever-expanding business growth with the opening of “The Rack & Cue” located at the Caribou Bowladrome. According to owner, Ivan Bennett, several women have already inquired as to special hours for them. This is in the planning along with a billiard league.

• Anderson, Madore: Outstanding local youth — Ten-year-old Ryan J. Anderson of Caribou, soon will be traveling to Baltimore where he will deliver his 1989 patriotic speech, “America the Beautiful,” during the American Legion’s 71st national convention. Mark Madore of Limestone High School FFA Chapter was recently presented with the Computers in Agriculture FFA Award.
• Thomas historical house opened to public — The Thomas family of Caribou will hold open house ceremonies at the Thomas Heritage House on South Main Street from Sept. 1 through 15. The home of Caribou settler Perez Thomas has been restored for public view and features rooms and furnishings dating back to the late 1800s.
