AR Martha M McCormackMcCormack, Martha M., 95, August 21, 2014.  Calling hours are Friday, August 29 from 7-9 p.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30 at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Limestone with interment following at St. Louis Cathollic Cemetery, Limestone.  A time of continued fellowship will follow at the St. Louis Parish Hall.  Arrangements by Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.


 

    LIMESTONE – Martha M. “Mattie” McCormack, 95, wife of the late Stephen M. McCormack, passed away August 21, 2014 at Seal Rock Health Care, Saco, following an extended period of declining health. She was born June 27, 1919 in Limestone, the daughter of Louis and Alice (Lagassey) Rossignol.
    Mattie graduated from Limestone High School in 1938 and worked as a NE Telephone operator, a pharmacist assistant at Gammon’s Pharmacy, and was the familiar face at Cyr’s Department Store, Limestone, where she worked as a clerk for twenty years. Affectionately known as “Corm” to many neighborhood children and citizens, her civic involvement included Little League, Girl Scouts, American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, the Glasses Project and membership in the Limestone Historical Society. She was honored by Phi Beta Sigma as First Lady of the Year in 1976, by the Limestone Chamber of Commerce as Citizen of the Year in 1976 and by Meals on Wheels in 1997. In 2001, Mattie was one of twelve Aroostook women honored at NMCC for their exceptional achievements that have made a difference in their families, schools, communities and churches. Mattie was a member of the Parish of the Precious Blood and a lifelong communicant of St. Louis Catholic Church in Limestone. Her love for the parish and her participation in many activities is well documented. She served as a catechist in the religious education program for nearly twenty years, worked in the religious articles shop, coordinated funeral hospitality meals, and chaired the St. Louis Cemetery Memorial pump fund-raiser, so that water is available at the site. She became a member of Regina Coeli, Daughters of Isabella in 1943, and held many offices before transferring to the Holy Rosary Circle in Caribou when the Limestone Circle disbanded. Mattie was also an active member of the St. Louis Ladies of St. Ann, which she joined in 1952.
    In addition to her parents, Mattie was predeceased by her loving husband, Stephen; and two brothers, Richard and Lawrence. She is survived by two sons, Michael and wife, Carla McCormack of Saco, Randy and wife, Kim Johnson-McCormack of Peoria, IL; two daughters, Carole Cochrane of North Waterboro, and Alyce-Ann Cushing of South Portland; thirteen grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren.
    Mattie will also be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families in New York.
    Friends may call Friday August 29, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday August 30, 2014 at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Main Street, Limestone with Father Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Limestone. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held following the interment at the St. Louis Parish Hall.
