HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Water Company (HWC) and the Maine Drinking Water Program announce, for the fourth consecutive year, Houlton Water Company has been awarded a Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in drinking water to a level that is effective for preventing tooth decay. The award recognizes
those communities that achieved excellence in community water fluoridation by maintaining a consistent level of fluoridated water according to state standards, throughout the entire year of 2013.
In addition, HWC recently successfully completed the mandatory lead and copper testing of the system as required by the Maine Drinking Water Program and the Federal EPA. The results were well below the acceptable limits established by State and Federal regulations.
HWC water department Supervisor Brian McGuire and his technicians continue to do an excellent job of complying with regulations and supplying quality water to our community.
